Through Apple Classrooms of Tomorrow (ACOT)
Apple has been directly involved in technology
and learning for the past twenty-five years.
Apple is now focused on ubiquitous computing
and its impact of achievement.
Apple, Canada is pursuing the use of technology
in increasing achievement in low performing schools.
The learning sciences provide insight and direction
on how technology may be used to change the traditional
correlation between socio-economic status and
school achievement. The approach requires transformative
changes in a schools culture, structure and practice.
KF is one of the programs that Apple has promoted
actively as a way of realizing transformative
change in schools. Many principals and senior
officials have responded positively and enthusiastically
to the presentations.
While many see the possibilities of KF, knowledge
building is a new approach to literacy and for
most, difficult to implement. We are working
to better understand these difficulties in implementation
in schools that are looking beyond the magic
bullet approach to improving literacy.
