This poster includes both a detailed "design narrative" from a grade 2 teacher who was for the first time trying Knowledge Building/Knowledge Forum in their classroom along with design analysis that examines the movement that was made towards establishing a knowledge building community in the classroom. 22 grade 2 students worked over a full school year using Knowledge Forum for both Social Science and Science questions. Preliminary results suggest the grade 2 students began to take over agency for the inquiry and began to establish norms for behaviour that are consistent with aspects of the KB theory. Further, the use of the ATK results to encourage students to self-assess themselves and the group seem to have promoted changes in database behaviour that were positive for them becoming a KB community.
