Poster Abstract

It has been suggested by the Education and Manpower Bureau (EMB) of Hong Kong that students of Hong Kong should be able to master 9 generic skills including problem solving and creativity skills. However, in recent research findings, Hong Kong students, as compared with those in other countries, are weak in these skills. One approach to tackle this problem is to introduce curriculum of the appropriate level to these students. From the performance of students in the last summer of 2002, it was found that knowledge forum (KF) can be used as a tool in enhancing the creativity skills of the students. On the other hand, the students are able to choose the contents in the Internet and others to construct their own knowledge. In this paper, activities of students using the KF in the last summer will be discussed. It can be seen that students can master a number of generic skills including collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking, problem solving and information technology.
