Poster Abstract

This poster will describe collaborative initiatives intended to introduce knowledge building to the PEI K-12 system. Involving the University of PEI, the PEI Department of Education, and teachers in a number of schools over the past three years these initiatives have grown from isolated classroom projects to knowledge-building as a foundation for curriculum development and implementation. The emerging goal and ongoing challenge to this point has been the realization that all participants in this endeavour must begin to see themselves as knowledge-builders, something contrary to most current classroom culture. The poster will close with an overview of initiatives intended to address and explore this challenge further, specifically a telementoring/knowledge-building support for science instruction and an "associate schools" model to support knowledge-building synergy between preservice and practicing educators.
