Abstract This poster presents the common design issues that were dealt at a public elementary school in Toronto as three teachers and their students attempted to take a Knowledge Building approach to a set of standard units of study. All of the students were new to Knowledge Forum® as were two of the three teachers. The school’s population was predominantly ESL and was a French-Immersion school. Key aspects that are presented include the stress that was placed on creating a collaborative culture using the existing strategies in the school, the focus on literacy development and reading for understanding, and need for a strategy around modeling how to build-on and rise-above in the database. Teacher and student interviews along with illustrative entries from the database are used in this multimedia poster. |
