Abstract This design experiment looks the knowledge building patterns of two groups of students who were attended an on-line seminar at the University of Padova (Italy). Specifically, this study focused on the different strategies used by the tutor during the discussion that occurred in the Knowledge Forum database. Each group used a view for each seminar subject, during the three phases of the course. The tutor's participation took place in two different ways. For the first group he gave theoretical information and formulated questions to stimulate the application of the theory to practical situations; for the latter group he provided only theoretical information. The results show a deeper level of discussion about the third subject for the first group, along with greater participation of the students in the applicative questions during their discussions. |
